‘“My mom ran an at-home day care in our home my whole life before and after school,” Phillips said. “Through the 16 years she did that, we probably had a dozen kids that had some type of Down’s syndrome or autism that came through the house. These are kids I hung out with every day, shared my toys with. So I realize these are amazing people, and I can learn things from them, and we can have great friendships.”’

‘”But I hope we get to a point where people just do the right thing, as far as hiring the best candidate and not look at the color of that person’s skin. It would be great if you could understand what the criteria is. Sometimes, when you interview for these jobs, nobody will really tell you what the criteria is, what they’re looking for. So, I hope it doesn’t come down to where you’ve got to incentivize people to hire minorities. It shouldn’t happen.”‘

‘“It’s something I have to continue to get better at over the years. To go out there and not turn the ball over when you have the ball in your hands, that’s the most important thing to teams.”’

‘”I think the connection part is cool because we haven’t been able to be together and just to see faces certainly makes it more personal. It’s personal and that’s the best step we can take right now, but still would surely be better to be in person and together with one another. When you can see someone’s face, I think it’s beneficial to both sides. We need this interaction as humans. Maybe Daboll was out in front of the times and a trailblazer.”’

‘”I’m so excited about this group of men because they’re hungry, they’re talented,” Washington said. “There’s youth, there’s experience. There’s all of these different things that, when you put that together and you try and extract the absolute best from that group, there’s a lot to make you excited. We want those hurries and pressures to turn into sacks and sack-fumbles, and I’m very confident in the program that we’re going to use to get that done.”‘

‘The NFL is considering a proposal to allow teams to expand their practice squads to 16 players this season with the idea being that teams will inevitably have players get sick and need to be quarantined for a certain amount of time. It’s a great point made by Paul that keeping only two quarterbacks on the roster, then, would be risky.’
